'9-1-1: Nashville' Fall Finale Teases Explosive Blue Drama

Key Points Don and Blue face personal and professional crises amid family secrets and workplace tensions. Edward demands Don fire Blue: “If you weren’t my son-in-law, I’d knock their teeth out.” The midseason finale airs Nov. 13; series resumes Jan. 8, 2026. Viewers—and truth be told, the characters—of 9-1-1 Nashville have been through the wringer throughout the series’ debut season. With just five episodes under our belts so far, Chris O’Donnell‘s character, Firehouse Captain Don Hart, and his son, Blue (Hunter McVey), have both faced the fragility of their mortality, with the former nearly dying at the end of the second episode and the latter pulling through as this week’s episode came to an end. They’ve also faced incredibly difficult choices, both personally and professionally, as motivations came into question when family secrets were brought into the light, leaving their relationship with one another and their positions at work at risk. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Some of that stress is gearing up to explode Now, it looks like some of that explosive energy is set to come to a head as the latest spin-off in the 9-1-1 franchise comes to a pause for the winter holidays. In the official promo for the fall finale, Don loses his cool on his own father-in-law, Blythe’s (Jessica Capshaw) dad, after he threatens Blue’s position at the 113. While the teaser leaves much to be uncovered, the crew responds to private property owned by Edward Raleigh (Tim Matheson) for what looks to be a massive structure fire, but the family patriarch is inexplicably furious about their presence. “If you weren’t my son-in-law, I’d knock their teeth out,” Edward threatens Don in the clip, apparently after Don ordered his removal from the scene for interference. Later, Don and Blythe meet with him at home, where things quickly devolve even further as the captain realizes his father-in-law expects him to “take ownership for what happened”—perhaps over the destruction of Edward’s property when the fire grew out of control and led to an explosion, based on the preview. Blue’s fate at Firehouse 113 is in question—again. But Edward’s terms were out of line as he demanded in no uncertain—and incredibly unkind—terms that Don fire Blue (though, we must admit, the audio sounds edited in a way that may prove to be a misdirection). As the sneak peek came to a conclusion, Don smashed his glass against the table and flew to his feet, telling Edward, “Get out of here before I drag you out!” Don has made it clear from the start that he had Blue’s (his long-lost son, if you’re not caught up) back from the start, so it’s no surprise to see him willing to throw away any relationship he has with his wife’s dad in order to defend the burgeoning firefighter. While Blythe was cautious at the start, at least as it pertained to Blue’s mother, Dixie (LeAnn Rimes), she’s stood up for Blue on multiple occasions, so it’ll be interesting to see how she’ll react to this rift he’s at the center of—and if she’ll stand up to her father or not.
