Why a Dodgers Player Got a ‘Cheeky’ Nintendo Character Tattoo After Winning the World Series

Key Points Dodgers celebrated their 2025 World Series win publicly, but one celebration was private. Kirby Yates got a tattoo of Nintendo’s Kirby holding the World Series trophy on his backside. Yates fulfilled a promise to get the tattoo if the team won the World Series. Most of the celebrations by the Los Angeles Dodgers after winning the 2025 World Series were televised. Fans saw the team celebrate on the field, in the clubhouse, during their parade on the streets of Los Angeles, and at a sold-out Dodger Stadium. However, there was one very personal celebration that took place behind closed doors until it was revealed later by Dodger star Kiké Hernández. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 In a post on Instagram on Nov. 4, the Dodgers star utility player shared a photo of himself smiling, wearing a World Series Champion hat, next to the bare bottom of a teammate that sported a tattoo of the popular Nintendo character Kirby holding up a World Series Champion trophy. Hernández captioned the photo, “GUESS WHO?!” Fans guessed correctly in the comments that it was Dodgers relief pitcher Kirby Yates and Hernández discussed the interesting choice made by his teammate when he and some of his teammates appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Nov. 4. See Kirby Yates’ NSFW tattoo here. “Who on the team distinguished himself the most at the party after you won?” Kimmel asked the four Dodger players who appeared on his show along with manager Dave Roberts. All agreed it was Kirby Yates. “He was the last man standing?” Kimmel asked. “He got a pretty good legendary tattoo,” Dodger catcher Will Smith said. “You posted it, right?” he added, asking Hernández. While Hernández played it off coyly, the news caught Roberts by surprise. “Was that his backside? That was him?” “Yeah,” Hernández fessed up. “Who else is getting a Kirby tattoo on their ass if not Kirby?” “He got his own name tattooed on his ass?” Kimmel asked. “No, he got the Kirby character from Super Smash Brothers,” Hernández explained. “Holding the World Series trophy.” “Kirby’s been in the big leagues for 12 years. Never won a World Series. And since his rookie year, he’s been saying, ‘If we ever win the World Series, I’m going to get an ass tattoo of the Kirby character holding a World Series trophy’ and that happened last night around 1 a.m.” “I see,” responded Kimmel. “That’s the best time to get a tattoo.”
