The University of the Virgin Islands’ women’s basketball team rallied in the third quarter, only to see Ozark Christian College get its second wind in the fourth quarter in a 58-50 loss Thursday night at UVI’s Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas. The Ambassadors (3-0), a National Christian College Athletic Association program in Joplin, Mo., led 11-6 after the first quarter and 29-19 at the half. However, the Lady Buccaneers (1-2) rallied in the third quarter, outscoring Ozark Christian 19-9 to tie things up at 38-38 heading into the final period. That’s when the Ambassadors regained control, opening the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run in the first two minutes, and outscoring UVI 20-12 in the period to remain undefeated. Two players posted double-doubles for the Lady Buccaneers, with returnee Kashay Bass scoring a team-high 15 points and adding 17 rebounds, and newcomer Keshara Romain adding 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Khaelii Robertson-Mack scored 13 points. Reagan Etzel led Ozark Christian with a game-high 17 points, Dina Marchoud added 11 points and Brooke Nice had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Brooka Jones finished with seven points and a team-best 14 rebounds. UVI plays its second exhibition game of the season tonight, facing the Women’s V.I. Elite at 6:30 p.m. at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. That game will be followed by the UVI men’s team playing its second exhibition game this season, hosting the V.I. Elite at 8:30 p.m.
