The Legislative Chamber Approves Ratification of the Global Convention on the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications - UzDaily.uz

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, a draft law “On the Ratification of the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education,” adopted on 25 November 2019, in Paris, was considered. As noted, the document is the first universal treaty of the United Nations governing the recognition of qualifications in higher education. The Convention establishes general principles for the recognition of courses, diplomas, and qualifications with the aim of facilitating access to universities and enhancing academic mobility worldwide. The Convention comprises a preamble, six sections, and 25 articles designed to create a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory international system for recognizing qualifications. Its implementation will expand academic exchange between regions, simplify the recognition of diplomas for students, faculty, and researchers, and develop unified approaches to evaluating educational credentials across different countries. Ratifying the Convention establishes a legal framework for implementing universal standards of qualification recognition, opens new opportunities for academic mobility, and promotes the integration of the national education system into the global educational space. The document also broadens prospects for Uzbek students, enabling them to continue their studies and conduct research at leading foreign universities, strengthening bilateral cooperation with other participating countries, and serving as a catalyst for the development of international scientific collaboration. The draft law was adopted by the deputies and forwarded to the Senate for consideration.
