Tears at What Foster Cat Tries To Do After Having Ears Removed

Even the coldest heart has been melted by the tear-jerking video of a cat trying her best to clean her ears after they were cut off due to cancer. A clip has gone viral on TikTok (@adognamedsid) of Yuki the white cat attempting to clean her ears as normal, only to discover that there was a problem. That’s because Yuki had to undergo surgery in October to remove both her ears following a cancer diagnosis. During the footage, Yuki can be seen lifting her paws to her head as if to scratch her ears, only to suddenly realize there is no longer anything there. The video has certainly captured attention online, and since being shared on TikTok on October 11, it has gone viral with over 4.3 million views and more than 833,000 likes at the time of writing. Newsweek has contacted @adognamedsid via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video. Yuki is currently being fostered while she recovers from surgery and is yet to find her forever home. Writing in a TikTok post, her foster owner said that Yuki had a cancer that is "common in white cats," so removing her ears provided the "best chance of it not spreading." Fortunately, the feline is healing incredibly well, and the vet even gave her some adorable pink ears made of wool. While every cat’s experience will be different, the website PetMD suggests that felines can still lead a normal life after having their ears removed. They will need time to adjust to the changes in their body, of course, but they can make progress nonetheless. Owners are encouraged to limit the amount of time their cat spends in the sun following surgery, and apply sun screen if they must go outside during the day. If they like to sunbathe, perhaps placing a shade or reflector over the glass to protect them from ultraviolet rays could help prevent further damage. Yuki’s foster owner said that the cat is still "the most beautiful, brave girl," even despite the health battle she is going through. Her hearing is "slightly impacted," the owner said in a TikTok comment, but the feline is adapting well so far. Since the video went viral of Yuki trying to scratch and clean her ears that are no longer there, it has melted plenty of hearts across social media. This has led thousands of TikTok users to take to the comments and share their reactions, leading to more than 2,900 comments on the TikTok post so far. One comment reads: "Please tell her she’s beautiful." Another TikTok user wrote: "I wonder if she’s having phantom pains or itchies." A third person replied: "Imagine having ears one day, falling asleep, and they’re just gone when you wake up." One commenter joked: "She looks like she doesn’t know what to do with the free time."
