Nicolas Cage‘s return to the world of illegal weapons trafficking is gearing up for production. “Lords of War,” Andrew Niccol’s sequel to his 2005 crime thriller “Lord of War,” is set to start shooting later this month in Belgium and Morocco, Variety can reveal. Sylvia Hoeks (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”) and Greg Tarzan Davis (“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” “Top Gun: Maverick”) have also joined the cast of the film, and will star alongside Cage, Bill Skarsgård and Laura Harrier. FilmNation Entertainment is representing the international rights and CAA Media Finance the domestic rights, with sales continuing at AFM. Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi (“CODA”), who produced the original, are producing under their Vendôme Pictures banner alongside Cage under his company, Saturn Films. Skarsgård is executive producing. “Lords of War” sees Cage’s notorious gunrunner Yuri Orlov go head to head against his own son, Anton (Skarsgard). A chip off the old black, Anton hasn’t simply followed his father into the arms trade, but is going one further by amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East. A bitter rivalry erupts, with the two even at odds over the same women. Hoeks recently starred in Season 3 of Apple’s sci-fi series “See” alongside Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard, and Jordan Scott’s “Berlin Nobody” starring opposite Eric Bana and Sadie Sink. Her upcoming projects include “Hurricana,” “So Much for Love” and “Mother,” in which she also serves as an executive producer. Davis made his feature film debut in 2019 in the 20th Century Studios’ film “The Call of the Wild” starring Harrison Ford, and acted alongside Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Vendôme produced the 2022 Oscar best picture winner “CODA” and recently announced Morten Tyldum’s “Ibelin” starring Charlie Plummer, Stephen Graham, Toni Collette, Isabela Merced, Maisy Stella and Anthony Hopkins. Hoeks is repped by Independent Talent Group, UTA, Untitled Entertainment, Willemijn Tuip/Copper en Co and Cheryl Snow at Gang Tyre Ramer Brown & Passman. Davis is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners and Hansen Jacobson Teller Hoberman Newman Warren Richman Rush Kaller Gellman Meigs & Fox.
