Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A. Shyam Prasad and Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar on Saturday (October 25) called for a strategic action plan to make the district free from drugs, exhorting the youth and students to stay away from the menace and contribute to a healthy society. Addressing a coordination meeting of the Eagle Committee on drug prevention here, the Collector said students should discern the difference between good and bad influences. “The youth are the future citizens. They must resist the temptations of narcotics tooth and nail and be responsible members of society,” he said. The Collector informed the Police, Excise, and Education departments to work in coordination with one another and set up Eagle Clubs in all schools and colleges to intensify awareness campaigns on drug abuse. “By conducting weekly essay and elocution competitions on the evils of drug use, the campaign could have more efficacy,” he said. SP Satish Kumar highlighted that Eagle Clubs would play a crucial role in effectively eradicating drugs at multiple levels in society, particularly on the campuses. He urged the youth to report immediately to the toll-free number 1972 any information on drug use, sale, or transportation. The Eagle Task Force would also undertake the rehabilitation activities for the victims of drug abuse. The Collector and SP further released the posters aimed at promoting the anti-drug helpline and awareness campaign.
