Expert PU College, Valachil, celebrated Deepavali blending tradition and festivity through cultural performances, competitions and inspirational addresses on Friday in Mangaluru. The celebrations included traditional rituals, ‘Goodu Deepa’ making, and a parade showcasing traditional attire. Students and staff presented vibrant performances, including Kunitha Bajane, capturing the spirit of the festival. Inaugurating the festivities, Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta lauded the district’s rich cultural heritage. Describing Dakshina Kannada as “God’s own country in the truest sense,“ Capt. Chowta said the region’s unique Deepavali traditions, including lighting lamps, worshipping deities, and venerating mothers, reflect the essence of Sanatana Dharma. He urged 2,551 students in attendance to take pride in their roots and speak positively about the region’s contributions to education, banking, healthcare, and cuisine. Drawing from his service in the Indian Army, Capt. Chowta emphasised the importance of perseverance, patience, and purity of intention. Expert Group vice-chairperson Ushaprabha N. Nayak said one must burn like a lamp to give light to someone’s life. She encouraged students to work with dedication and humility. Group director Ankush N. Nayak, principal N.K. Vijayan Karippal and others were present.
