Sarah Ferguson is said to be enduring a lonely and uncertain chapter in her life after being “cut adrift” from royal circles and increasingly frozen out of high society. The 66-year-old former royal, who has lived for decades alongside her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten Windsor at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, is facing major upheaval after the former Duke was ordered to move out of the 30-room mansion within the next few months. On Thursday, November 6, the King officially stripped his disgraced brother of both his HRH style and his princely title following growing controversy over his links to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein . Andrew has tainted the reputation of the royal family through his association with Epstein and, for many years, has been dogged by allegations that he sexually abused Virginia Giuffre after she was trafficked by the financier. He has strenuously denied the allegations. Andrew has agreed to leave Royal Lodge and is set to move to the King’s private Sandringham estate in Norfolk sometime in the new year as he begins his internal exile. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will also move out of Royal Lodge, with questions remaining over where the former Duchess will live. Speaking to The i, a royal source said it may transpire that Sarah will continue her living arrangement with Andrew once they both move out of Royal Lodge. “Although the King has made it clear he feels his responsibility ends at finding a home for Mountbatten Windsor, he is not opposed to Ferguson joining his brother there if they both want that,” a royal source said. “It’s a matter for them.” For Ferguson, who has spent years rebuilding her public image through charity work, writing and a renewed media presence, the potential move marks yet another blow. Despite maintaining an amicable relationship with Andrew since their 1996 divorce – and often describing him as her “handsome prince” – her future now appears increasingly precarious as their shared life at Royal Lodge comes to an end. Friends of the Duchess have expressed concern about her emotional wellbeing, revealing that she has been struggling with feelings of isolation. “She’s been cut adrift,” one close friend said. “I’m trying to keep her spirits up, but when we spoke, she seemed lonely and isolated.” Another friend, socialite and veteran party planner Liz Brewer, noted that while Ferguson remains a warm and engaging figure, she has become persona non grata in certain circles. “She’s always been very personable,” Brewer said. But when asked whether the Duchess was currently welcome at high-society gatherings, Brewer replied bluntly: “No.” The Duchess has also battled serious health challenges in recent years, including breast and skin cancer, and those close to her worry that being increasingly excluded from royal life and elite social circles has left her lonelier than ever. “She’s always been resilient,” one friend added. “But this time feels different.”
