Pratt looking to push for Olympic qualification

Since going undefeated with the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) team back in August, Bahamian women’s professional tennis player Simone Pratt has been in action, and is currently at the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Women’s World Tennis Tour W15 Tournament in Santa Tecla, El Salvador. The former national tennis champion expressed her biggest takeaway after her last few competitions. “I went into this year’s Billie Jean King Cup team prepared, ready to win [and] with lots of confidence in my teammates. My biggest takeaway from the past few tournaments is I was in the best shape that I could be in. My quickness and speed also played a big role in my success,” she said. Pratt, 29, is ranked at number 1,585 in the ITF Women’s Singles Rankings, as of October 20, 2025. She had a strong showing at the W15 Santa Tecla Tennis Tournament in Santa Tecla nearly two weeks ago. Pratt earned consecutive victories over Colombian Isabella Collazos and Indian Priyanka Rodricks in rounds one and two of the women’s singles qualifying draw. She took down Collazos in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-2, in round one. Following the victory, she returned to defeat Rodricks in back-to-back sets, 6-3 and 6-1. Pratt moved on to round one of the singles main draw and kept her winning ways going against American Kaya Baker. She won that matchup with identical scores of 6-2 and 6-2. Her impressive run came to an end against Brazil’s Carolina Bohrer Martins in round two. She lost to her competitor, 6-1 and 6-1. Pratt outlined her goals as she prepares to continue making her mark on the international stage. “My goal is to play in a lot more tournaments this year and next,” she said. “Also, [my goal is] to keep up with my fitness regime. Another goal would be to try and secure some more funding to be able to travel and play even more tournaments. I do plan to push for Olympic qualification, and that would mean playing in more tournaments and securing more funding from government and personal sponsors.” Pratt is looking forward to making her presence felt at the 2025 Giorgio Baldacci Open Tennis National Championships, set to take place in December. Back in 2023, she secured her first national title victory since 2012 with a triumph over Sydney Clarke. The latter got the better of her at last year’s tournament, but Pratt is eager to reclaim her stake as national champion. “The Giorgio Baldacci is a tournament that I look forward to playing every year,” she said. “Hopefully this year, I can come out and play some great tennis and reclaim my title as number one.” A number of the country’s top players are expected to be home in The Bahamas for the Giorgio Baldacci nationals.
