The application is seeking outline consent for up to 71 homes, alongside associated infrastructure and a country park, on land to the north of The Burgage. It is one of several proposals for new housing sites in the Eccleshall area to come forward from developers in recent months. Muller Property Group have submitted this proposal, after visiting an Eccleshall Parish Council meeting in July to give a presentation on their plans for three sites across the town. Mark Krassowski, director of agent Walsingham Planning, said at the meeting: “Stafford Borough has seen its housing requirement increase from 358 per annum to 749 and it doesn’t have an up to date Local Plan. The current Local Plan dates back to 2014 for part one and 2017 for part two. “Councils are required to demonstrate a five-year housing land supply and the current position in Stafford Borough is 3.65 years. Eccleshall is a sustainable settlement – it is a key service community within Stafford Borough and it has attracted a lot of developer interest. “We believe the sites we have got are modest in size and proportionate to the size of the settlement. They are obvious locations for rounding off of a settlement and they are developable over a short period of time.” But residents are concerned about potential over-development of Eccleshall, due to the level of planning applications being submitted. Earlier this month county and borough councillor Jeremy Pert submitted a petition to both authorities, which has now reached 5,000 signatures. The application for land north of The Burgage has also received several objections in the days after it was published on Stafford Borough Council’s website. The deadline for comments is Wednesday, November 12. A Garmelow resident said: “There has been an increase in 350 homes (in Eccleshall)within the last 10 years. This has already placed a strain on the infrastructure and amenities. “There is likely to be further applications which may add up to over 1,000 homes. This would destroy the unique character of Eccleshall for many reasons.” An Elford Heath resident said: “My principal concern is the effect the increased traffic caused by this and other proposed development in the immediate area. Eccleshall has inadequate parking already and further development will only make the matter worse. Generally the local infrastructure is already under stress. “Local medical attention is already difficult to obtain and the local school is at capacity. Eccleshall must not be spoilt by unwanted development.” You can find out more about planning applications and planned roadworks where you live. Visit publicnoticeportal.uk.
