Three Mallorca minimarkets fined for late-night alcohol sales on Paseo Maritimo

Palma Town Hall has fined three minimarkets on the city’s Paseo Marítimo for selling alcohol outside of permitted hours, following inspections by Palma Police earlier this month. The inspections were launched after a complaint from the local residents’ association, which raised concerns about ongoing alcohol sales during restricted times. Police visited several shops in early October and found that three had breached the municipal bylaw that governs the sale of alcohol in the city. Two of the establishments fined were among those specifically mentioned in the residents’ complaint. One of the three had already been fined in August for the same offence. €1,000 fines handed down Each minimarket has been fined €1,000, within the penalty range of €750 to €1,500 set out by Palma’s municipal ordinance. Town Hall officials said the action formed part of ongoing efforts to ensure peace and order in residential areas surrounding Palma’s busy seafront. “We will continue to act firmly to guarantee compliance with municipal ordinances and protect the peace and quiet of residents,” the Town Hall said in a statement. Authorities added that Palma Police maintain continuous monitoring across the city, with operations stepped up over the summer months. Some of these actions were carried out jointly with the Balearic Ports Authority, aimed at ensuring compliance and peaceful coexistence between residents and businesses. According to Town Hall figures, 52 violation notices were issued during the summer to establishments along the Paseo Marítimo for breaching municipal regulations. These included unauthorised alcohol sales and other offences related to trading hours and public disturbances. The area, one of Palma’s most popular stretches for both locals and tourists, has long been the focus of complaints from nearby residents about late-night noise and activity linked to unregulated alcohol sales. Crackdown on Alcohol Violations Continues Palma Town Hall confirmed that enforcement operations will continue into the winter, with police carrying out regular inspections to ensure compliance with the city’s trading rules. The latest fines form part of a broader push to uphold the municipal alcohol ordinance and balance the area’s vibrant nightlife with residents’ right to rest. Officials reiterated that cooperation between Palma Police and the Balearic Ports Authority would continue to play a key role in maintaining order along the waterfront.
