The Kansas City Chiefs (5-3) are set to travel to Highmark Stadium on Sunday for a highly anticipated matchup against the Buffalo Bills (5-2). Since Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ arrival in 2017 and Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s in 2018, the two have become not only among the league’s most successful stars but also the faces of the NFL — and it seems every time they meet, it’s an instant classic. However, CBS Sports play-by-play commentator Jim Nantz, who will be on the call for Sunday’s game, made an intriguing revelation about the two quarterbacks, saying that they “need each other,” a comment that quickly got football fans buzzing. “They need one another,” Nantz said of Mahomes and Allen. “If you look at great rivalries in sport, Magic needed Bird. Jack and Arnie needed one another. Brady needed Manning, and Peyton needed Tom. It goes with the territory, and they bring out the best in one another.” “As a Bills fan they do not need one another in any shape or form how many Bills fans would accept 50 years of terrible football (rather than being fine against Mahomes in the regular season) for a Super Bowl ring?” A fan said. Someone else added, “disagree. Allen just needs to beat Mahomes in the playoffs. Mahomes does not need Allen.” Another person wrote, “Nobody cares about this “rivalry” anymore. NFL tried too hard to replicate Manning/Brady. This isn’t the same.” “Nah Patrick would be just fine without Josh. But the NFL does need a foil to the Chiefs. That’s why they push it so much,” one more fan commented. Sunday’s game is set to kick off at 4:25 p.m. EST. Interestingly, Patrick Mahomes is 1-4 against Josh Allen in regular-season matchups but has a perfect 4-0 record against him in the playoffs.
