Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has that "y'all must have forgot" energy this season after a forgettable 2024-25 campaign hampered by injuries. The 24-year-old was ranked the 33rd-best player before the 2025-26 campaign, but he's been performing like a top-10 player so far. Maxey is averaging 37.5 points, 8.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds through the first four games, while shooting a staggering 47.4 percent from three. Tyrese Maxey thrives, 76ers keep winning During Tuesday's 139-134 OT win over the Washington Wizards, Maxey finished with 39 points and 10 assists, including 14 made free throws, two of which iced the game down the stretch. Maxey is the second player in NBA history to post over 150 points and 30 assists through the first four games of a season, joining Russell Westbrook, who had a similarly hot start during his 2016-17 MVP run. The MVP chatter for Maxey is not far-fetched. Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett feels the 76ers star "wants in" on the MVP talks, urging him to "keep goin" to make a stronger case. Tyrese Maxey replicates Wilt Chamberlain feat Maxey has also etched his name in Sixers lore with his incredible start. According to NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark, Maxey is the first 76ers player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1965 to average over 37.5 points through the first four games of a new season. Remarkably, the feat eluded the likes of "Dr. J" Julius Erving, Allen Iverson, Moses Malone and Charles Barkley, among other iconic Sixers over the years. For Maxey, the only number that matters is that the 76ers are 4-0. In Tuesday's win, they outscored the Wizards 45-24 in the fourth quarter and overtime to pull off a come-from-behind victory. "It says that we are tough," Maxey said of his team's fighting spirit, via Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "We're resilient, and it says we are in shape, honestly, because to be able to play like that and come back, and do it multiple times, like go into overtime off a back-to-back and still pull out a win." The 76ers (4-0) are one of only four teams still undefeated in the 2025-26 season, along with the Oklahoma City Thunder (5-0), San Antonio Spurs (4-0) and Chicago Bulls (3-0).
