When Only Murders in the Building returns for its sixth season, it will break a long-running tradition. The Hulu comedy stars Steven Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as neighbors in an apartment building who launch a true-crime podcast and team up to solve the mystery behind multiple murders. Their New York apartment, the Arconia, has long been the physical glue that held the show together. However, that's all about to change, as Only Murders in the Building season 6 will take place exclusively in London. Co-creator and executive producer John Hoffman spoke to Deadline about the major changes coming next season. Hoffman acknowledged that London and New York are sister cities, so Only Murders in the Building season 6 will include "all sorts of connectors." The storyline will be steeped in London culture. As a result, Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora will be "fish in new waters." When asked if the upcoming season would be filmed in both London and New York, though, Hoffman revealed that London will be the exclusive shooting location for the entire season. Only Murders in the Building season 4 branched out beyond New York and set part of the season in Los Angeles, which broke from its typical production setup, even though New York was still one of the filming locations. However, Hoffman's announcement is shocking because it means that season 6 will not feature New York at all. Only Murders in the Building season 5 featured a storyline about the residents of the Arconia being forced out to make room for a casino, but the apartment building was eventually saved. The finale ended on a cliffhanger as Tina Fey's character Cinda Canning was found dead outside the Arconia. Fey joined Only Murders in the Building in a recurring role during the show's very first season and was a guest star in the third and fifth seasons. Before her character Cinda's death at the end of the most recent finale, she had been in London for an investigation. Her shocking death sets up the sixth season's storyline as Charles, Oliver, and Mabel start their own investigation and figure out why Cinda was in England, which fits with the location change.
