One Killed As Bengaluru Couple Chases Two-Wheeler, Runs Car Over Gig Worker, CCTV Emerges

A married couple in Bengaluru was arrested on charges of deliberately hitting a two-wheeler rider, leading to his death, while leaving the pillion rider with injuries. The victim in the case was identified as 24-year-old gig worker Darshan. The pillion rider, Varun (24), sustained injuries in the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to the details, the incident happened on October 25, post 9.30 pm, when a speeding car rammed into Darshan’s two-wheeler and sped away. Initially, the JP Nagar Traffic Police registered a case of accidental death. However, after examining the CCTV footage, investigators found that the car had deliberately chased and rammed the two-wheeler, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh Jagalasar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. “Preliminary inquiry revealed that the two-wheeler riders had earlier brushed against the car, breaking its side mirror. Enraged, the driver reversed his vehicle, followed them, and deliberately rammed into it, leading to the rider’s death,” the DCP said. The accused, a physical education teacher, allegedly returned to the spot with his wife after the incident, wearing masks to conceal their identities. They collected broken parts of their vehicle from the scene in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, police said. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and destruction of evidence was registered at the Puttenahalli police station. In a separate incident, two persons were arrested in connection with a house burglary case in Bengaluru, and police recovered gold and silver articles collectively valued at around Rs 72 lakh. According to police, on June 16, the complainant had gone to Udupi after locking his house. When he returned two days later, he found the front door broken open and left ajar. After weeks of analysing CCTV footage and tracking pawn transactions, police detained a suspect near Begur Lake Koli on August 6, based on information from informants.
