Fitbit has not launched many new wearables since its acquisition by Google. Its latest major launches arrived in September 2022, with the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 2, followed by the Charge 6 and Inspire 3 the next year. Since then, Google has solely focused on its Pixel Watch lineup. However, the company is not done with Fitbit wearables, though, and it plans to launch new hardware in 2026. Google confirmed to 9to5Google that it will launch "new Fitbit hardware next year." Unfortunately, that's all the company confirmed, and it did not provide any expected release timeframe or tease what to expect from the new wearable. It could just be a minor refresh of the existing Fitbit watches or a complete revamp. Still, this marks the first time in years that Google has officially confirmed new Fitbit hardware is in development. The company also revealed that the Gemini AI-powered health features currently available in preview within the Fitbit app will roll out widely in 2026. The latter is currently only available in preview to Fitbit Premium users in the US, with the rollout set to expand next week and coming soon to iOS users. The current preview program will help the company gain valuable feedback. Even if Google launches new Fitbit watches next year, don't expect them to run Fitbit OS. That's presumably dead, as the company focuses solely on Wear OS. There's room for a Fitbit next to the Pixel Watch Given that the Pixel Watch 4 costs $350, the company will likely use Fitbit wearables to offer more budget options. This could be in the form of fitness bands like the Charge 7 or the successor to the kids-only Ace. Alternatively, Google could launch a high-end Fitbit watch that focuses heavily on fitness and promises longer battery life than the Pixel Watch 4. Something like a Garmin alternative, though the company will really have to up its game if it wants to deliver such an experience.
