NCERT, IIT Madras Sign MoU to Strengthen Educational Research and Innovation

On October 27, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It aims to strengthen educational research, development, training, and technology integration as a significant step toward innovation in education. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Sanjay Javin, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India; Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director, NCERT; and Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, along with senior officers from the Ministry of Education, IIT Madras, and NCERT. This partnership aligns with the vision of #NEP2020 and aims to: -Promote IT/AI/ML-enabled learning solutions. -Enhance student learning, teacher training, and digital content and platform development -Foster research, data analytics, and multilingual platforms and resources. This move will build future-ready, inclusive, quality learning ecosystems for all learners and teachers. IIT Madras Partners With Industry & HEIs to Offer Employability-Focused Courses In March, IIT Madras collaborated with the industry and other higher education institutes to provide employability-focused courses on SWAYAM Plus. The higher education institutions collaborated with SWAYAM Plus to encourage students to take up industry-relevant courses as part of their academic curriculum. Through the MoUs signed with these institutes, the initial phase brought in over 2,500 learners who enrolled in courses on SWAYAM Plus in the following weeks. SWAYAM Plus also onboarded more institutes, targeting the enrollment of more than 10,000 students from various institutions who took SWAYAM Plus courses for credits. The MoUs were signed during the IInvenTiv 2025 event held at the IIT Madras campus on 28th February and 1st March 2025 in the presence of Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Education and Development of the Northeastern Region, Government of India; Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras; Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning), IIT Madras & SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, IIT Madras; and other stakeholders. Highlighting the importance of this collaboration, Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning), IIT Madras & SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, IIT Madras, stated, “The objective of these MoUs was to encourage higher education institutions to embed SWAYAM Plus courses into their semester schedules.
