Sourabh had gone missing from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, on October 22. He had admitted his critically ill mother to the hospital and vanished from the premises around 10 p.m. that night. Before disappearing, he sent a message to his mother expressing emotional distress over her deteriorating health. His family filed a missing complaint at Burla police station. Based on the message, authorities suspected he might have jumped into the canal. Police and fire services launched a search operation on Friday. After hours of combing the area, they recovered his body near the Chipilima Hydro Project. Sourabh, a budding mountaineer and resident of Mahalaxminagar in Balangir, had shown promise in adventure sports. His sudden death shocked the local community. Friends and family mourned the loss, remembering him as a devoted son and passionate climber. The incident raised concerns about mental health support for caregivers. Authorities urged hospitals to provide counseling services for attendants dealing with emotional stress. Police have not ruled out suicide but await further investigation to confirm the cause of death. The tragic end to Sourabh’s disappearance highlights the need for better support systems in medical institutions. His story serves as a reminder of the emotional toll that caregiving can take.
