Micronesia Mall is inviting the community to celebrate the first anniversary of the Ko’ko’ Express, its indoor family train attraction, today. The celebration is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the mall's center court. Launched in November 2024, the Ko’ko’ Express is a trackless train that takes families on a ride around the mall. Named after the ko’ko’ bird, Guam’s cherished and endangered flightless bird, the attraction represents Micronesia Mall’s ongoing commitment to creating family-friendly and educational experiences for residents and visitors alike, the mall said in a release. This year’s celebration features a very special guest — a live ko’ko’ bird presented by the Guam Department of Agriculture, allowing guests to see the island’s iconic native species up close. Families can also enjoy free activities, entertainment, and giveaways throughout the event along with a meet-and-greet with the Ko’ko’ Express team. The celebration will also feature a “birthday” cake cutting, photo ops with the train, and festive decorations in the Center Court. “The Ko’ko’ Express turning one year old is a milestone that reflects what we value most at Micronesia Mall—creating experiences that bring families together. Our Ko’ko’ Express represents our commitment to community, culture, and fun," Francis Lira, operations and finance manager at Micronesia Mall, said in a statement. Lira said they're also excited to make the anniversary an educational and impactful event by partnering with the Department of Agriculture to share more about Guam’s native wildlife and inspire the community to learn about local conservation efforts. "It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the Mall, family connection, and awareness of our island’s natural heritage," Lira said. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and include a Ko’ko’ Bird Educational Showcase presented by the Department of Agriculture, table displays, giveaways, trivia, and a Ko’ko’ Express ride launching from the Center Court. Exhibitors include the Department of Agriculture, which will feature a live ko’ko’ bird exhibit, bee display, and conservation demo. The event’s bakery partner, American Bakery, will provide the birthday cake for the celebration. Attendees will enjoy giveaways of Ko’ko’ Express ride vouchers, Foot Locker gift cards, MM Theatres movie tickets, birthday cake, and more. Micronesia Mall invites families, schools, and visitors to join in this family-friendly celebration as the Mall heads into the holiday season. The holidays also mark the return of daily Ko’ko’ Express train rides beginning on Black Friday. Starting Black Friday, Nov. 28, visitors can enjoy the timeless Holiday Lights, Music & Snow Shows and Photos with Santa in the Micronesia Mall Center Court starting at 1 p.m.
