No. 21 Michigan is 6-2 and still in the hunt to fight for a spot in the College Football Playoff before they play Purdue on Saturday. More News: Jimbo Fisher Looking for Coaching Job Amid Likely Florida State Opening The Wolverines were without head coach Sherrone Moore in their 63-3 win over Central Michigan on Sept. 13 and a 30-27 victory over Nebraska on Sept. 20 as part of a punishment for NCAA infractions related to advanced scouting. The case was related to the advanced scouting (off-campus scouting) led by then-staffer Connor Stalions. Moore still had one more game to serve as a part of a three-game suspension and two-year show-cause order he received in relation to the advanced scouting case. Michigan was hit with fines for committing Level I violations. According to the NCAA’s Division I Infractions Dashboard, Moore withdrew his appeal in the case on Sept. 29 and the University followed on Oct. 6.” Per ESPN, Moore plans to miss the Wolverines’ season-opener against Western Michigan in 2026 to complete his three-game suspension. Michigan didn’t need Moore to overcome the Chippewas, as they routed Central Michigan right out of the gate, taking a 35-3 lead at halftime before winning by 60 in front of a crowd of 110,740 at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines’ contest against the Cornhuskers was a different story, as the game went back and forth before Michigan was able to run out the clock and secure a three-point win on the road in Lincoln, Nebraska. Moore will not miss any more time for the remainder of the season. Following Saturday’s contest against the Boilermakers, Michigan will finish the season against Northwestern, Maryland and No. 1 Ohio State. The Wolverines are tied with No. 6 Oregon and Iowa for third place in the Big Ten with 4-1 records in conference play. For more on the NCAA, head to Newsweek Sports.
