EXCLUSIVE: TomKat Media and Killer Films have entered into a creative alliance that will see them jointly produce several projects. Under the pact, TomKat will provide development funding for various Killer projects, with Killer co-producing select TomKat films. Projects include an adaptation of Duff Wilson’s Pulitzer finalist eco-thriller Fateful Harvest, penned by Daniel Stiepleman (On the Basis of Sex). Based on a Seattle Times investigative series reported by Wilson that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Fateful Harvest tells the story of Patty Martin — the mayor of a small Washington town called Quincy — who discovers American industries are dumping toxic waste into farmers’ fields and home gardens by labeling it “fertilizer.” There’s also Box No. 1, a feature drama about the cover-up of love letters between Eleanor Roosevelt and journalist Lorena “Hick” Hickok, which TomKat’s Marcela Davison Aviles is scripting. Kat Taylor and Davison Aviles will produce these projects for TomKat Media, with Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler producing for Killer Films. “We’re delighted to join Christine and Pamela and collaborate on bringing these evocative stories from unheard voices to a broad audience, sharing uplifting projects that get to the heart of our resilience and capacity for hope, courage and love,” said Taylor. Davison Aviles said of the Killer Films duo, “Their creativity reaches millions with beauty, verve and inspirational impact.” Vachon, who serves as co-president of Killer Films, added, “Killer and TomKat share a common mission to bring underrepresented, impactful stories to the big screen. The idea is that with this partnership, we’ll be able to better ensure the survival of these kinds of films that make audiences feel seen as well as entertained.” Known for myriad indie classics, Killer Films has most recently produced titles like Late Fame, Materialists, A Different Man, On Swift Horses and May December, among others. The company’s Vachon and Koffler are repped by Cinetic. Founded with a mandate to develop and produce content from historically marginalized storytellers across platforms including film, television, podcasts and the performing arts, TomKat Media is repped by Rick Berg and Rich Freeman at Code Management, and attorneys Bill Skrzyniarz and Tanya Mallean. Fateful Harvest‘s Wilson and Martin are represented by Echo Lake Entertainment, with Gersh’s Frank Wuliger repping Stiepleman.
