Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox has defended Benjamin Sesko after Gary Neville claimed the forward looks "miles off it". United completed the signing of Sesko from RB Leipzig in August in a move worth £73.7m . The Slovenia international was also a target for Newcastle United but opted to join Ruben Amorim's side. He became United's third major signing in attack following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Sesko, though, has so far failed to live up to the hype, only scoring twice in 11 games, leading to Neville coming down hard on him. “He's miles off it compared to the other forwards United brought in, like Cunha and Mbeumo," he said. “He looks awkward, his touch was off a few times when balls went over the top. For £80m (£73.7m), yes, he's young and still settling, but you want to see something more.” But while Sesko has struggled, Mbeumo already has five goals to his name while Cunha has also impressed as United have transformed their fortunes in recent weeks. Wilcox, though, believes not only will Sesko come good, but his hard work is making life easier for his forwards. “Benji, at the top end, he's going to be an amazing player,” he told Inside Carrington . “It's difficult to be the no.9 at United and I know sometimes that Matheus and Bryan are getting a lot of credit, but the runs that Benji is making is also helping Matheus and Bryan as well. "All four of them have done really well, the summer signings from last year, they are top professionals.” Cristiano Ronaldo recently claimed United’s hierarchy is still failing to take the steps needed to bring the club back to the top of the game. In an interview with Piers Morgan, the Portugal international gave another detailed take on the issues at United and explained why he believes his old club continues to struggle. But Wilcox has revealed that the club has a clear plan in place, saying: “We've just got to continue to build the spirit, continue to build on Ruben's idea. Ruben has got a very clear idea. “It's a lot more flexible, the idea, than what people give it credit for. We have got to start with the end in mind and understand the game model, how Manchester United are, it is really important and we have to put the jigsaw pieces together. “Putting the jigsaw pieces together, we would love to have all of the pieces in place where we can see a very, very clear picture but, whilst we are building and whilst we are building the picture, it is even more difficult when you lose some football matches because people start questioning things. “But we are really clear, myself and Ruben, Omar [Berrada], the ownership, we are really clear on the direction of travel and this is really important.”
