Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan inaugurated the Madurai Regional Hub of the Tamil Nadu Technology (iTNT) Hub at the Anna University Regional Campus in Madurai on Friday. The Minister said there was a huge demand for ELCOT Special Economic Zone in Madurai. A lot more companies will be coming to the IT parks. The government will be flexible and support innovation, he said. “We want to make sure that women in tech are encouraged and we get their perspective”, he said, adding that it was encouraging to see more women participants at the event. iTNT Hub CEO Vanitha Venugopal elaborated the purpose behind the establishment of the Madurai Regional Hub as part of the State government’s strategic move to democratise and strengthen the Deep and Emerging Tech innovation ecosystem beyond Chennai. Thiagarajar College of Engineering Chairman and Correspondent K. Hari Thiagarajan said the Madurai Regional Hub will provide a lot of opportunities to the local talents. Dean of Anna University Regional Campus, Madurai, K. Linga Durai expressed confidence that the iTNT Madurai Regional Hub will play a key role in the emergence of Deep and Emerging Tech startups from the region, benefiting researchers as well as students. The inauguration was followed by the launch of the first Madurai PATHFINDER incubation cohort. According to a press release, the establishment of the Madurai Regional Hub will extend the benefits of the hub to a wide range of people including researchers, startups, academia, industry and other stakeholders. In addition to the co-working spaces and infrastructure at the hub, startups and researchers will gain access to all the programmes and initiatives of the hub, including technology transfer. The iTNT Hub satellite office in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, will be the department’s first in the State, according to the press release
