Bengaluru: India’s tech capital Bengaluru has claimed the top spot as the world’s fastest-growing city, according to the latest updated Savills Growth Hubs Index, which was in 2024 and highlights the global cities poised for the strongest economic and population growth by 2033. The report also names Hyderabad, Delhi, and Mumbai among the top five globally, underscoring India’s rapid urban and economic transformation. The research, conducted by Savills World Research, evaluated 230 cities worldwide based on key growth indicators such as economy, population, and personal wealth. It found that 14 of the top 15 fastest-developing cities are in Asia, reaffirming the continent’s role as the world’s growth engine. The United Nations has projected that by 2050, nearly 68% of the global population will live in urban areas, an increase of 2.5 billion people, primarily in Asia and Africa. Bengaluru Leads Global Rankings Bengaluru, often dubbed the “Silicon Valley of India,” topped the global Growth Hubs Index. With its thriving ecosystem of global tech firms, startups, and premier educational institutions, the city has become a powerhouse of innovation-led expansion. The report notes that Bengaluru’s model, combining cost efficiency with a highly skilled workforce, exemplifies how Indian cities are reshaping the global knowledge economy. Delhi and Mumbai Join the League The national capital Delhi ranked third globally, propelled by strong migration patterns and rapid growth in technology and finance sectors. Meanwhile, Mumbai, ranked fifth, continues to anchor India’s financial and real estate landscape. “Cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Pune, with their rich pools of talent, are creating ecosystems where innovation thrives,” said Ramesh Nair, CEO of Mindspace Business Parks REIT. Closely following Delhi, Hyderabad secured the fourth position globally, emerging as one of the world’s fastest-developing technology hubs. The city’s progress, driven by its robust services sector, expanding digital infrastructure, and government-backed urban planning, has positioned it for one of the highest GDP per capita growth rates among the 230 cities studied. The report attributes India’s dominance in the rankings to its booming services sector, resurgence in manufacturing and engineering, and favourable government reforms. As large-scale migration from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities continues, New Delhi is projected to become the world’s most populous city by 2030.
