Retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Lowe’s have unveiled their own generative AI-powered shopping assistants. These tools use large language models trained on a retailer’s product catalogs to help shoppers find relevant products. For example, Lowe’s Mylow bot offers information on how to troubleshoot a leaky faucet, or what you’d need to refinish a tabletop. AI companies behind major chatbots like ChatGPT and Microsoft have also built agentic shopping offerings into their platforms. ChatGPT’s technology powers some retailers’ bots, and the chatbot also has partnerships with Etsy, Shopify, and Walmart to allow shoppers to complete purchases without leaving the chat.
