Humiliating moment Chris Cuomo announces his brother's historic loss to Zohran Mamdani on live TV

Chris Cuomo was forced to dissect his brother's historic loss in the New York City mayoral race on live television moments after the election was called. Democrat Zohran Mamdani, 34, romped to victory in the nation's largest city on Tuesday night, securing 50.4 percent of the vote. Former Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent after he lost to Mamdani in the Democratic primaries, trailed at 42 percent, while Republican Curtis Sliwa won over just eight percent of voters. Andrew's brother Chris was one of the co-anchors for NewsNation's live coverage of the race, and reacted live on air as it emerged Mamdani was the victor. 'Of course I wanted my brother to win, I believe in my brother, I believe he is a tremendous operator within government,' he said moments after the announcement. 'But, he's not what Democrats want right now in their party, and Democrats win in New York City.' Cuomo summarized his brother's election night failure with a simple 'one line analysis.' 'The Democrat was gonna win in New York City,' he said. 'The type of Democrat they want, I do believe there's a metaphor here as a reaction to MAGA. 'These are a big basket of votes. If this percentage structure stays the same, it answers the question of the mandate.' Cuomo predicted this trend would continue in the upcoming midterms across the nation. Democrats had a night to remember across Virginia too, where they secured the votes for governor, attorney general and liuetenant governor. Andrew Cuomo graciously conceded defeat at his election night watch party, silencing supporters who tried to boo Mamdani as he congratulated the 34-year-old on his victory. 'No, no,' he said. 'That is not right. That is not us.' The former Democrat celebrated that 42 percent of voters turned out to support him and vote for him even 'on an independent line', noting it was 'the highest percentage in modern history.' 'Almost half of New Yorkers did not vote to support a government agenda that makes promises that we know cannot be met,' he added. Mamdani has faced backlash for vowing to make city buses free, introduce rent freezes on regulated apartments, make childcare free and increase the minimum wage. His grand ambitions will be achieved through increasing taxes on the wealthy and on corporations, he has said. But Cuomo said: 'We support an economy of jobs, of opportunity, of entrepreneurship. That is what New York City is, and that's how it must remain. 'We believe in law and order, and we need the police to keep society safe. We will not make the NYPD the enemy. 'We cherish our diversity, and we have no tolerance for discrimination of any kind... and we will not tolerate any behaviour that fans the flames of anti-semitism.' His final comments were another slight at Mamdani's politics, given his vocal support for Palestine during the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The Uganda-born Mamdani's rise from little known assemblymember to mayor-elect of New York City has shocked the establishment as has many worried about what his socialist policies mean for the city's future. The young assemblyman celebrated his victory with a video posted to social media showing a subway door opening at the 'City Hall' station. 'Thank you to the next generation of New Yorkers who refused to accept that the promise of a better future was a relic of the past,' Mamdani said during his speech after the win. 'We are breathing in the air of a city that has been reborn.' President Donald Trump has branded Mamdani a 'communist' and threatened to cut off federal funding to the city earlier this week if he were to win the race. 'If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!' Trump said a New York under Mamdani would be a 'complete and total economic and social disaster,' claiming that the socialist's principles 'have been tested for over a thousand years and they have never once been successful.' He had endorsed his longtime rival Cuomo in an effort to swing voters away from Mamdani, praising his 'record of success' despite their feud during Trump's first term. On Tuesday night, the president claimed pollsters said the reason his chosen candidates did not win was because the Trump name was not on the ballot. He also blamed the ongoing government shutdown.
