The Pelicans trailed by six heading into the fourth quarter and were behind 112-110 with just 16 seconds left, before Jose Alvarado hit a 3-pointer to put the Pelicans in front. Free throws from Trey Murphy III and Saddiq Bey sealed the deal for New Orleans, who were playing without star Zion Williamson, who is scheduled to miss at least a week with a strained hamstring. Dallas has dropped two straight games, most recently losing 110-102 to the Houston Rockets on the road. The Mavericks have struggled offensively, ranking last in the NBA in points per game (107.3). The game against the Rockets was a tight one, as despite the Mavs trailing by as many as seven in the fourth quarter, they came back to tie it 101-101 with 3:09 remaining before the offense fell apart. D’Angelo Russell would make a free throw with 2:50 left, but that would be the last point the Mavs would score.
