GST Registration: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration process will be simplified starting November 1, 2025. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced this. According to this, new registration applications will be approved within just three days. The government had previously stated as part of the GST 2.0 reform package that the registration process would be simplified. What will change in GST registration? The government aims to simplify GST compliance while promoting ease of doing business. This new scheme has been developed in keeping with the recommendations of the GST Council. The focus is on bringing small and low-risk businesses under the GST ambit, with monthly tax liability not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh. Such businesses can register under the new scheme or the old process. Efforts are being made to automate this process as much as possible so that applicants don’t have to deal with excessive paperwork. What is the current process? Currently, applying for GST registration takes several weeks. Sometimes, delays arise due to technical issues or documentation. This alternative scheme, which will begin on November 1st, will not only simplify the registration process but also speed it up. Applicants will not need as many documents. The government estimates that 96% of applicants will benefit from this move. Relief for Suppliers The government says that currently, small suppliers are required to display a primary business address in each state to supply to different states. However, this new scheme will eliminate this difficulty. It will also make business operations across the country much easier for even small online sellers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says that the government is now focusing on implementation at the regional level, shifting from policy design. A firm stance against tax evasion Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, along with GST reforms, also emphasized that the tax administration should treat taxpayers with respect. She emphasized that taxpayers should feel they are the nation’s taxpayers and are treated with respect. Certain protocols should be followed to catch those who commit tax evasion. Therefore, everyone should not be harassed and should not be viewed with suspicion.
