By Lizzy Chirkpi The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers caught with two locally made guns and a stolen motorcycle in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area. Confirming the development in a statement on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmad Wakil, said the suspects were apprehended following a swift response by police operatives. According to him, the incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday when police received a distress call from a resident of the Gandum Wambai area of Azare. “The caller reported that armed individuals had invaded his business premises, GKY Food and Oil Mills, and fled with a motorcycle after threatening the occupants with firearms,” Wakil said. He explained that police officers from the Azare Divisional Headquarters, working in collaboration with local vigilantes, immediately launched a pursuit which led to the arrest of the suspects at Lafiya village along the Lafiya–Gwasame road. “Items recovered from them include two locally made guns and the stolen Bajaj motorcycle,” he added. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, lauded the officers and members of the vigilance group for their “swift and coordinated response,” reaffirming the command’s determination to maintain law and order. “He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining proactive measures against crime and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state,” Wakil quoted the Commissioner as saying. He further noted that investigations were ongoing to determine whether the suspects were connected to a broader criminal network. Wakil also urged residents to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to help the police sustain peace and security in the state.
