Forgotten Premier League ace set for transfer talks as £27.5m star edges closer to exit

Forgotten Brentford star Fabio Carvalho could be set to leave the Bees in January. Carvalho is the sixth most expensive signing in the club's history but has struggled for minutes under former boss Thomas Frank and now Keith Andrews. Brentford signed Carvalho from Liverpool for £27.5 million last year. His decision to leave Brentford could now unleash a tug of war with clubs such as Sunderland and Leeds said to be interested in the attacking midfielder, as per Sky Sports . However, reports also suggest that Carvalho is attracting interest from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. The Portuguese star has become frustrated at his lack of action in a Brentford shirt, while he has also had to contend with a shoulder injury that required surgery earlier this year. Rumours state that he is now keen to pursue a move away, either on loan or on a permanent deal. The former Fulham star rejected a transfer from the club this summer to fight for a first team place under Andrews. The ex-Liverpool man scored a brace for Brentford's B team recently, starring in a 6-1 win over Luton Town. Yet Carvalho has yet to reach the heights many predicted for him during his spell at the Cottagers that made him a standout name. His big-money move to Brentford came after a tricky time at Anfield where he was loaned out to RB Leipzig in Germany and then Hull City , after signing for the Reds from Fulham in the summer of 2022. The Portuguese star has featured five times for Brentford this season, although most of his appearances have come off the bench. However, he did net a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea in September. He also featured 23 times last season. Speaking ahead of the new campaign, Carvalho said: "I'm just taking each day as it comes. I want to be able to play as many games and get as many goal contributions as possible." His comments upon leaving Liverpool suggest he will be wanting to avoid the same issue at Brentford, with the star becoming something of a bench warmer at the Gtech Community Stadium. He also touched upon his high ambitions. "I'm not going to just sit on the bench because what's the point?" he told Sky Sports in the summer of 2024. "I want to play football and show the world what I'm capable of, and why I train so hard every day. I'm not going to be able to do that by sitting on the bench. "I can sit here and say, 'yeah, I should have played more', but things happen for a reason, and I'm sure they were meant to happen that way." He added: "I've learned so much from just being there [Liverpool], being around the great players that are there and just having that experience of training with them every day, which ultimately fuels me to want to reach that level."
