Football players and fans narrowly avoid serious injury as goalpost crashes to the ground in terrifying moment MORE: Young female reporter is brought to tears by immature fans' screaming By DANIEL MATTHEWS, US SENIOR SPORTS WRITER Published: 22:32 BST, 22 October 2025 | Updated: 22:35 BST, 22 October 2025 Arizona State players and fans flirted with disaster Saturday after a goalpost fell to the turf in the aftermath of their upset win over Texas Tech. The Sun Devils beat the No 7 ranked Red Raiders 26-22, sparking wild celebrations at Mountain America Stadium. After a last-gasp Hail Mary failed for Texas Tech, fans immediately stormed the field and - amid the chaos - the goalpost at one end of the field collapsed to the turf. Scary footage, which appeared on social media over the weekend, showed supporters and media flooding the endzone as the celebrations began. Almost immediately, the goalposts fell forward. They briefly teetered at a 45-degree angle - swaying in the air - before crashing to the floor. At least one panicked player could be seen running away, in a bid to avoid being hit, while a photographer also had to take evasive action. 🚨 #ASU TAKES DOWN NO. 7 TEXAS TECH IN TEMPE 🚨 Please enjoy 4 minutes of college football mayhem😂@Sports360AZ pic.twitter.com/b7RbXqAsjJ — Eliav Gabay (@eliavgabay) October 19, 2025 Arizona State fans rushed the field after their upset win over Texas Tech on Saturday The Sun Devils beat the No 7 ranked Red Raiders 26-22, sparking wild celebrations Thankfully, no one was hurt but on Tuesday, the Big 12 announced that Arizona State had been fined $50,000.
