TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Nothing says autumn Up North like an outdoor festival that pairs the skills of world-class lumberjacks with live music, some great food, and an array of craft beer, cider and other fall drinks. And did we mention the flapjacks? The Flapjack & Flannel Festival is returning to the Traverse City area on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort. Tickets can be purchased online as well as at the festival. The day-long event will feature live music, outdoor games, family-friendly activities - and pretty much every variation on pancakes that you can think of. Some will be flipped up as sweet treats, but there will be plenty of savory options for the flapjack connoisseurs. Jalapeno cheddar bacon is always a favorite, festival organizers say. But this year, stop by to sample a new flavor that features sliced beef, Swiss cheese, mushrooms and caramelized onions. “You’re basically getting everything in a burger ... in a pancake,” said Troy Daily, one of the event organizers. “There are sweet versions and savory versions, and they all pair well with the drinks that we have.” The festival lands on the last day of the Traverse City Beer Week celebration. Some of the area’s most well-known brewers will be on site, including Right Brain Brewery, Earthen Ales, Loco Boys, Cheboygan Brewing and Blackrocks Brewery. There will be a variety of hard ciders, as well as what looks to be some delicious cocktails being stirred up. There will be plenty of non-alcoholic options, too. Festival Highlights Lodging is available on site at Timber Ridge, or check the Traverse City Tourism Bureau’s accommodations list to find a spot for an overnight stay. Each ticket comes with tokens. These can be used for food, alcoholic drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages, including soda, regular cider, coffee and kombucha. More tokens will be available for purchase at the festival. If you want to park on-site, the fee is $10 per vehicle. Cash only. The festival provides a free shuttle from downtown Traverse City. The shuttle leaves from the Old Town Parking Deck and runs to and from the event every 15 minutes. The shuttle runs from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entertainment includes music by Drew Hale, Little Dipper and Chris Sterr. Also showing off their skills will be the Jack Pine Lumberjack Show, so get ready for some log-rolling and axe-throwing. For FAQs about the festival, check the website here.
