Every single Emagine theater in Michigan and the U.S. will soon be owned by a Belgian cinema chain. Kinepolis has reached a deal to acquire Emagine Entertainment for $105 million with the acquisition to be completed by the end of this year. Moviegoers probably won’t notice much of a difference as Kinepolis will continue to operate Emagine theaters under the existing brand name. “With the acquisition of Emagine Entertainment, we are back on track with the execution of our expansion strategy since the pandemic,” Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group said. “We do this with a high-quality asset in a market where we have had positive experiences with our Kinepolis concepts.” Duquenne adds that Emagine’s theaters are perfect for what his cinema chain was looking for. “The location and size of the cinemas make them a valuable addition to the Group’s portfolio, allowing us to expand our presence in the US market and strengthen our national structure.” The CEO of Emagine says he is happy with the decision to sell the theaters to Kinepolis. Kinepolis has a reputation for operating exceptionally well-run cinemas both in Europe and in North America," said Paul Glantz, Chairman and CEO of Emagine Entertainment. "Their commitment to providing guests with an unforgettable movie experience makes them the ideal suitor to continue the stewardship of Emagine into the future.” Emagine has 13 movie theaters in Michigan, including in Novi, Royal Oak, Hartland, Canton, Saginaw and Birch Run. Emagine also has 15 theaters combined in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Colorado. Kinepolis owns and operates 109 cinemas worldwide with 10 of those in the U.S., 35 in Canada and 64 in Belgium, The Neitherlands, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Poland. In Europe, Kinepolis has 64 complexes throughout Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Poland. It also acquired Landmark Cinemas out of Canada and American chain MJR.
