Multiple New York Giants players were the subjects of trade rumors before the club fell to 2-7 on the season via a 34-24 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon. Following that defeat, Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II was asked if he has any desire to have a new NFL home before the trade deadline arrives at 4 p.m. ET this coming Tuesday. Dexter Lawrence II makes feelings on Giants future clear "I don't," Lawrence said, per the Giants' website. There was no indication as of Monday morning that Giants general manager Joe Schoen would seriously consider trading Lawrence, one of New York's most important defensive players, before Tuesday evening. For starters, Lawrence is under contract through the 2027 season. Additionally, Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll likely need to accumulate more wins through Week 18 to prevent Giants co-owner John Mara from cleaning house in January. Schoen and Daboll punting on the remainder of the campaign by picking up draft picks they may not be permitted to spend probably wouldn't be a wise business decision. "Just keep leading," Lawrence said about wanting to be part of the Giants turning things around. "Eventually, the wall will break. That's just what I've got to do as a leader." In total, the Giants have gone 11-32 since the start of the 2023 season. Kayvon Thibodeaux echoes Dexter Lawrence II regarding Giants future A previous report revealed the Giants had "no interest in trading" Thibodeaux, who is under contract through next season after the team picked up the fifth-year option attached to his contract. For a piece updated on Sunday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic wrote that "the Giants do not plan to move" Thibodeaux and had "previously told inquiring teams that the price would be a first-round pick." According to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Thibodeaux "also stated a desire to remain with the Giants past the trade deadline" despite the club's woeful record. "That s- -t is unacceptable," Thibodeaux added about a Giants defense that has surrendered 105 points over its past nine quarters of play, per Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post. "The defense has got to be better. The front seven has got to be better. The secondary has got to be better. We got to be stout. You’ve got to stop the run game to even have a chance to rush the passer." It seems as if the Giants will have both Lawrence and Thibodeaux on the roster when they play at the Chicago Bears (5-3) on Nov. 9. As of Monday morning, ESPN BET had Big Blue as a 3.5-point road underdog for that contest.
