Concerns have been raised over a section of the Lacken Walk in Kilkenny City with access for wheelchair and buggy users creating widespread concerns. The popular walkway re-opened after a period of refurbishment back in February, becoming Kilkenny City’s first composite construction boardwalk. The original boardwalk, which forms part of Lacken Walk and Canal and is a gateway to the Nore Valley Walk, was installed back in 2012. "There is a brilliant 4km route from John’s Bridge to Ossory pedestrian bridge and back, except for the section from the Dublin Road down to the Lacken Mill which is a stepped incline," he said. "This means that those with mobility issues, including wheelchair users and buggy users cannot negotiate a very short part of a great walking, running or wheeling route," he added. "Being able to continue on from the junction of the steps and the walking route, up to the Lacken viewing point and then down Windgap Hill to the remainder of the riverside route to John’s Street would open up a fantastic public facility to people of all needs.
