Celebrity Traitors stars spill show secrets - from cast 'kicking off' to strict rules

From Alan Carr's giggling away in a green cloak to Celia Imrie's headline-making fart, Celebrity Traitors has given fans many memorable moments - and with just days to go before the final, it's not long before the doors of Ardross Castle are closed for the year. While the celebs have kept tight-lipped as to whether the Traitors of the Faithful win the show's prize money, many have let slip a few behind-the-scenes facts from their time on the show. Jonathan Ross has revealed where the stars go when they're not filming on the castle grounds - with the TV presenter naming the hotel he was holed up in for weeks. Whether it's the strict rules that all stars must abide by or the items banned from their hotel rooms, here are a few treacherous titbits from the Celebrity Traitors cast ahead of the final. In a recent episode of his podcast, Reel Talk, Jonathan Ross opened up about the stars' hotel rooms - which were located in the Inverness Airport Hotel. "We all stayed in the same hotel I believe but I can't say that for sure because you never saw who was in each room or where," he said. "We stayed in the Inverness Airport Hotel, which by the way was lovely, it was fine. You wouldn't usually stay there for more than a few nights at a time I guess so all of us found it towards the end a bit claustrophobic." He added that, unfortunately, for the stars with aching muscles, there weren't any baths in their rooms. "There wasn't a bath in the room so the day after we did that first challenge when we had to push that enormous trojan horse up the hill, we all wanted a hot bath, to soak in the bath - all the older people - but we couldn't," he said. "You don't even have a phone in the room. When you want to order food or you want to talk to someone about something, you can to stick a laminate under the door." Between the roundtables and the tasks, the celebrities were given the odd break - with Jonathan revealing what he got up to on his days off. "We had TVs set up and before they took our phones away, we could put our passwords for Netflix and Amazon and stuff like that when you first arrived before the game had begun," he said. "When I had any time off there, I would sit and watch House on Netflix. One day when there was a day off - there's a block of filming, then a day off, then a block of filming - I watched 11 episodes of House back-to-back." As for athlete Tom Daley, he revealed that he asked for gym equipment to be brought to his room. "I did have a request for a little workout situation. A couple of dumbbells and some knitting needles. That's all I need," Tom said on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X last month. It's often standard practice for clocks to be hidden away from those taking part on reality shows - and Celebrity Traitors is no exception. Speaking on the Comedian's Comedian podcast earlier this year, Nick Mohammed revealed that one of the stars 'kicked off' about the rule about time. "We weren't even allowed to know the time so when we were in castle, we were like, 'What's the time?' And they said, 'It's Traitors time," he said. "Every single member of production had to answer with that until someone kicked off and said, 'It's a basic human right, you can just tell us - it doesn't mean anything.' "They are so clever but in the best possible way. It's a really hearty show. They don't want people to clash, it's not that kind of show. It's not Big Brother . It's a very feel-good show, and of course, the game is the game, and you do get sucked into it." It's also no surprise that all technology is banned for celebrities on the show - however, they do get one call a day to a loved-one. "All your devices are taken from you," Nick said. "I was allowed one phone call a day with the kids. You're isolated from the outside world ." Jonathan added that they weren't allowed "any connection to the outside world whatsoever". He said: "Even those of us who had smart watches on, they were taken away as well which is understandable because you could connect to Wi-Fi or emails or something like that. "It makes sure no one can cheat - say the Celebrity version, if someone gets banished or murdered and the other people in there have their phone number, they could find out who the Traitors are. "It does have the interesting effect of destabilising you a lot. We all found it to be an immersive experience. You really get into it and you feel a bit trapped in it - and I think that's because you don't have any of your normal outlets to relieve stress or pressure. You don't have your phone to pick up, you can't check your emails, you don't know what's going on outside, you don't even know what time it is. That forces you to enter into it even more wholeheartedly." Taking part in the Celebrity Traitors comes with a number of strict rules - one of them being that you can't talk about any of it. Nick revealed on the Comedian's Comedian podcast earlier this year that he had signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement before taking part. "It's so NDA'd. The whole show thrives on secrecy, it lives and dies on that being upheld," he said. When asked whether he was given a special chat about the NDA on the show, Nick said: "You get special chats every single hour. The infrastructure around that show - it is so impressive. If you've done even a little bit of telly, the way they create that show such that you are immersed in the game is incredible." Jonathan revealed recently that the celebrities had been reminded of the rules just weeks after the first episode went out . "I didn’t realise but I’m not allowed to talk about the stuff that’s edited out, which I can understand why," he said on an episode of Reel Talk. "When I started talking about it last week, they sent us all a kind of list saying, ‘Just to remind you these are the things in your contracts you’re not allowed to talk about.'" Meanwhile, contestant Joe Wilkinson revealed at the start of the series that stars had to undergo a bag search before filming began - which he wasn't too happy about. "This man said, 'I’m going to go through your bag'. I was like, 'I don’t think you are, pal'. All the producers came," he said. "I was like, 'You’re going to have to trust me,' but they were like, 'Well, you have signed up to this, you p***k', and I was like, 'OK, carry on.'" He added: "They were polite and it was fine in the end." Co-star and actor Mark Bonnar added: "There’s six people in your room as soon as you’ve checked in, and they’re going through every item of your luggage. Just to check you haven’t got any secret recording equipment or illegal drugs. We’re celebrities—we wouldn’t do drugs!" During The Celebrity Traitors' run, series three contestant Kasim Ahmed let slip details about the contestants' rulebook - admitting that it was "dead strict" when he competed on the show. Speaking in an Ask Me Anything on Reddit , Kas said: "Loads of rules. The rule book was dead strict, especially for the traitor role. What you could and couldn't say about the others was really important and anything that could ruin gameplay was a big no no." Referring to series one's Kieran Tompsett controversially telling the Faithfuls that him voting for fellow Traitor Wilf Webster was a "parting gift" from him during his banishment, Kas said: "Not sure how much of that was from the parting gift, but I imagine a lot of rules stemmed from that!" The Celebrity Traitors final airs on Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
