Celebrity Traitor finally topples after longest wait in show's history for fans

It's taken seven episodes and a lot of false starts but tonight the Faithful finally evicted the first baddie from the Celebrity Traitors - and they were delighted. As they celebrated, host Claudia Winkleman looked almost as pleased as they all did, declaring: "You've got one!" And once he'd been banished, Jonathan Ross stood by his decision to back Alan Carr and Cat Burns as winners, despite them both voting to get rid of him. “In my dream scenario, it would be Cat and Alan,” he said, after leaving the castle. “I don't think Alan's going to survive, but I think Cat will make it to the end, and she deserves to win. Out of the three of us, she had the best tactical brain.” And, despite being one of the most successful Traitors of all time, as he exited the game Wossy admitted that he’d found it “more intense and much trickier” than he’d anticipated - and actually wished he’d been a Faithful. “I thought I'd be happy to be a Traitor, but I actually found it really hard just lying to people - that is what makes it such compelling viewing,” he explained. “Around the second day I began to think ‘oh, I really wish I'd said I'd like to be a Faithful’.” Jonathan , 64, said that having Cat and Alan by his side on the BBC series had been an enormous help. “Cat, I only knew a little but I really like her, and I thought, ‘Oh, she's going to be a cool Traitor’, and then when Alan came in, I thought, ‘this is going to be fun’ . I love Alan, he is one of the funniest men I've ever met in my life, so to have him there with me already made me feel more comfortable.” The ITV star - who is a super-fan of The Traitors and has watched every series - said he was delighted to have lasted as long as he did, but realised his time was up. "On the last day at breakfast, I knew eyes were on me. I began to relax, oddly, at that point and thought ‘OK, I am going home today, just enjoy the day’. I could have fought back, but you know what? I thought, ‘I’m going have a nice day’. I've got further than I thought I would, so I'm quite happy’. His exit speech at the end of the roundtable drew gasps from the other players as he pretended to be yet another Faithful. Delivering what Joe Marler called “the most ridiculous bow-out ever” Jonathan said: “I’ve got no idea what everyone’s doing wrong. I can’t believe you’ve done it again. I can’t believe that I’m standing here for no good reason I don’t want to be rude but - you’re idiots! I’m not judging, because it’s fiendish - I’m not blaming the players, I’m blaming the game. “I am now, and have been all through the game, completely Faithful,” he insisted, as heads went into hands around the table, before he added: “To the Traitors!” For her part, host Claudia Winkleman could not contain her glee. “You’ve got one!” she declared, adding that from tonight the banished players will no longer reveal which side they are on. On screen last night, Wossy said he didn’t blame Cat and Alan for turning on him at the last moment and voting for him - and now thought they could take the jackpot, currently standing at £53,000. “I hope that, out of honour for the departed, older member of the family, they will stick together and they will romp off to victory.” Even though she had voted for her fellow Traitor, singer Cat, 25, looked gutted to lose him, admitting: “I feel very sad because it was me, Jonathan and Alan the whole time but unfortunately he had too much heat on him.” Speaking to the camera, Alan said that all the attention on Wossy had helped him. “That got me off the hook,” he sighed. “But there’s a Jonathan Ross-shaped hole in my turret.” At the start of last night’s show, murdered Faithful Lucy Beaumont gasped when she saw who the Traitors were and told them: “Oh my God - I hope you all feel terrible about yourselves.” And when Cat mumbled an apology, she retorted: “No, that’s not good enough.” Afterwards Lucy said there had been an element of “real shock and betrayal” at finding out who they were, but also “relief” to finally know. But pressed on who she’d like to win, she admitted that it was Cat - for playing the game so well. Alan confessed that he hadn’t enjoyed killing her. “Murdering face to face was so harsh and so raw,” he told the camera. “I felt like the grim reaper.” In tonight’s episode viewers will again see the remaining Traitors having to murder in plain sight - this time by quoting the words “parting is such sweet sorrow” to their chosen victim. But after Cat told Alan it was up to him to perform the task, he seemed rattled. “I’ve always got to do their dirty work for these Traitors,” he moaned. “I’m surprised they haven’t got me up in the turret wit a Hoover. Why is it always me?” Like this story? For more of the latest showbiz news and gossip, follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
