Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against an Aligarh resident for registering a trust in PM's name without taking a prior approval of Central Government or PMO. The accused - Jasim Mohammad - has been booked under sections 3 read with 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act. "The PMO had forwarded a complaint dated 28th September 2024 of one Mushtaq Ahmad Hussain, advocate in civil court, Aligarh UP. The PE revealed that 'Centre for Narendra Modi Studies' was registered on 25.01.2021 under Indian Trust Act, 1860 by Jasim Mohammad without prior permission of the Central Govt. or from Prime Minister's Office," said CBI FIR filed on 24th October. "During preliminary enquiry, the CBI found that use of the name of the Hon'ble Prime Minister without obtaining necessary permission from the Central Government, which is a violation of section 3 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 and punishable u/s 5 of the Act, which is a non-cognizable offence," the CBI FIR added. Later, the probe agency moved an application before the Rouse Avenue Court seeking permission under section 174 BNSS ( procedure for police handling of non-cognisable offences). On 14th October, the court allowed CBI to investigate the case. On 2nd October, CBI had filed a case of cheating, impersonation and forgery against a Delhi-based resident who impersonated himself as PMO official on three occasions and tried to seek favours. The CBI FIR, which was filed on 2nd October and the complainant is an assistant director at PMO. The FIR states that on 1 May, accused P Rama Rao used forged letters and posed himself as a deputy secretary at PMO - and tried to avail facilities at Tirumala Tirupati and later also enquired about management quote seats in a private institute, among other things.
