Earlier on Tuesday, Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said that Kyler Murray would be re-assuming his position as the starting quarterback once he got healthy. But apparently, that might not be for a while. Murray, who last played in Week 5 due to a foot injury, will now be sidelined for longer than anyone initially thought. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has revealed that the signal-caller may be out for four to eight weeks to provide him enough time to recover. Sources: Kyler Murray and the Cardinals have consulted with multiple doctors on his foot injury and have been told the timetables for recovery have been anywhere from 4-8 weeks, with an increased chance of setback until it’s properly healed. Not surprisingly, the Cardinals opted to hold on to the former No. 1 overall pick, who is still under contract through 2028 thanks to the five-year, $230.5 million extension he signed with the team back during the summer of 2022. Arizona has been rolling with Jacoby Brissett as its starting quarterback over the last several weeks and just came away with a 27-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Brissett has looked impressive since relieving Murray, which has had some wondering if the Cardinals could potentially bench Murray in favor of Brissett even when he gets healthy. Murray is still just 28 years old, but patience may be wearing thin in the desert. The University of Oklahoma product has not lived up to expectations, especially after putting together back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2020 and 2021. Since then, Murray has mostly been a pedestrian quarterback. He also suffered a torn ACL midway through the 2022 campaign, which limited him to just eight games in 2023. In five games this season, Murray has totaled 962 yards, six touchdowns and three picks while completing 68.3 percent of his throws.
