Sir David Beckham made a very open statement about his family. The former footballing icon was today presented with his knighthood by King Charles at Windsor Castle, for his services to charity and sports. The ex-England captain was joined by his wife, Lady Victoria , and his mother, Sandra and dad, Ted, as they watched on in awe during the emotional investiture. Just hours later, the Beckham family celebrated with their children, Romeo , Cruz and Harper, with David joking they could call him "Sir Dad". One noticeable person was absent from the joyous moment: Sir David and Lady Victoria's eldest child, son, Brooklyn . In recent years, the aspiring chef has had a strained relationship with his famous parents. Brooklyn famously snubbed David's 50th birthday celebrations and hasn't publicly acknowledged his royalist father being given his knighthood. But while he admits today was filled with more emotions than nerves, he was reassured by the presence of his family. "To have my parents there today, to have my wife there to celebrate with my children, it makes it a very emotional day," he said. Speaking to The Sun , about his charity work, which he says he started aged 15 in Manchester, Sir David added: "So that important work will always continue. But today is just a day to savour as a family." Brooklyn has remained silent on social media today. But son Romeo praised his dad. Sharing a snap of himself and his family, the footballer said: "No one deserves this more than you, love you so much." Poking fun, he joked: "Congrats Sir dad." Moments later, Lady Victoria shared snaps from the day on social media, writing: "David, from the moment I met you 28 years ago, you've always been so proud to represent your country. Whether on or off the pitch, no one loves England or respects our Royal Family more, so to see you honoured by The King today is something I'll forever cherish. “You've achieved so much, and yet you're still the same kind, humble, hardworking man I met nearly 30 years ago, as well as the most amazing husband and father. I've never felt prouder than I do today. Sir @davidbeckham, we all love you so much xxx." Friends of the footballing icon who made his debut for Manchester United in 1995 told the Mirror that Beckham will not "sit back idly" and will continue to focus on his charity work with the hopes of "trying to make a difference." They added to us: "There are some celebrities who get a knighthood and you don't hear from them again... But David wants to use this incredible honour to champion the causes he believes in and raise their profile. He is determined to give back to the UK." He says his knighthood is the "proudest moment" of his career. Over the years, he's backed a string of charity causes, as well as being a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2005. Just last year, he was named as an ambassador of The King's Foundation, an educational charity launched by Charles in 1990. Speaking at Windsor Castle, he said: "All the things that I do, I do out of love. I don't do it because I'm forced to do it, I don't do it because I have to do it, I do it because it's important because I think there'll always be something to do. I do believe that my work will never stop. I enjoy work. I got brought up with the right values to have respect for people and that will continue." He wore a bespoke grey three-piece suit, designed by Lady Victoria, who wore a navy Bela Midi dress from her own brand, along with a Stephen Jones hat. Sir David also took inspiration from the King when it came to deciding what he wanted to wear. Like this story?
