CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The TriCounty Link is hosting a series of open houses across the counties it serves to gather public concerns and comments on service improvements. The bus service operates in rural communities to connect residents to destinations across the Tri-County area. The TriCounty Link is trying to find ways to improve and better serve Dorchester, Berkeley and Charleston County residents who use the service. The open houses are being used as a study to compile data and integrate it into their service. TriCounty Link also has various recommendations that will be presented to the Summerville area for its growing population. “We’re looking at opportunities to use technology and create zones where you can essentially dial a ride is what it’s called where you can use an app or call in and ask for a trip that would come and pick you at a designated time and take you to where you need to go,” Sharon Hollis, principal planner for Transit Planning Services, said. “And so it’s much more flexible, can expand the amount of area that we can cover rather than waiting a couple hours for a bus that might come by once a day.” The Charleston County open house will be held on Nov. 17 at John’s Island Library. The Berkeley County open house will be on Nov. 18 at St. Stephen American Legion Hut and the Dorchester County open house will be held on Nov. 19 at the Doty Depot Building. All open houses will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and are drop-in style and will not include a presentation.
