…we nurture character and skills in students — VC Dr. Adebukola Abiola, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Preston Healthcare, United States of America, has described Bowen University’s educational system as highly productive. He made the remark during the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science (Ph.D. Honoris Causa) degree on him as part of activities marking the university’s 20th convocation ceremonies held recently. Abiola said the institution is known for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and social impact, noting that its consistent ranking among top universities in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa remains commendable. He added that education at Bowen University is a sound investment in the future of children, encouraging prospective students, particularly those interested in medical and health sciences, to consider the university as a preferred choice. Abiola commended the Nigerian Baptist Convention for establishing Bowen University to promote discipline and faith-based learning in Nigeria. While urging the university management to sustain its strong academic and moral standards, he advised the graduating students to demonstrate “Godliness with skills” in their careers and communities. Also speaking, Captain (Dr.) Edward Boyo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways and Landover Company, described Bowen University as an institution parents can trust for sound education and character formation. Captain Boyo, who also received an honorary Doctor of Business Administration (Ph.D.) degree, said, “Every resource committed to educate a child in Bowen is never a waste. The products will justify the input of the parents.” He pledged his company’s support for the development of the university’s aviation programme. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jonathan Babalola, said the institution focuses on cultivating character and developing essential skills in its students. He added that Bowen University has signed several Memoranda of Understanding with international universities and research institutes to enrich teaching, research, and learning. “Today, Bowen University stands as a beacon of faith, knowledge and integrity, a testimony that excellence and Godliness are not mutually exclusive,” he noted. The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Deaconess Joan Olatoyosi Ayo (OON), congratulated the graduating students and said the university’s vision can only be fully achieved through the collaboration of the Baptist Convention, the university community, parents, alumni, and the Iwo community. Meanwhile, the Visitor to the university, Rev. Israel Adelani Akanji, President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), expressed satisfaction with the institution’s progress and advised the graduating students to remain guided by the Scriptures as they move forward in life.
