Big Changes: Lufthansa Schedules These 7 Airbus A380 Routes For Next Summer

Airlines continue to plan for next summer, and Lufthansa is no exception. In the weekend's schedule update, the Star Alliance member scheduled seven Airbus A380 routes. It came as Qatar Airways announced the start of superjumbo service to Singapore. Lufthansa is a few months later in scheduling its summer A380 plans than it was last year. It'll use the double-decker quadjet from Munich to Boston, Delhi, Denver, Los Angeles, Mumbai, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles. While most of these cities saw the type in the summer of 2025, Mumbai is brand-new to Lufthansa's superjumbo network. Where Lufthansa Will Fly The A380 Next Summer Unlike in the summer of 2025, the latest information shows that Lufthansa will not fly the A380 to New York JFK next year. When all equipment is considered, JFK is the world's second-busiest airport for long-haul flights. While the German giant may change things again, this reflects what is currently known. There are two big additions. First, Mumbai will see Lufthansa's double-decker for the first time. More on this below. Second, there's San Francisco. After flying the superjumbo to the Californian airport in March 2020, Flightradar24 shows that it returned on October 26, 2025. Until now, it was not due to see the type next summer, but now will—although only three times a week. Mumbai To See Lufthansa's A380s For The 1st Time All eight of Lufthansa's A380s have 509 seats. They have eight first-class suites (1-2-1; on the top deck), along with 78 business seats (2-2-2; on the top deck), 52 in premium economy seats (2-4-2; lower deck; 38" pitch), and 371 in economy (2-4-2 on the top deck; 3-4-3 on the bottom deck; 31"). To help keep them competitive as they're due to be used until the 2030s, all frames will be retrofitted with new cabins. The 509-seater will replace the 293-seat A350-900 that was previously scheduled to operate from Munich to Mumbai. Seats per flight have therefore jumped by 73%. It means first-class cabins return to this market for the first time since September 2024, when the A340-600 ceased being deployed on that route. It also means Mumbai will have three A380 airlines for the first time since December 2024, joining Emirates and Singapore Airlines. Next August, LH766 will leave Munich at 12:20 and arrive in India at 23:50 local time. Returning, LH767 will depart at 01:45 and get back to Europe at 06:30 local time. Obviously, this is well coordinated for connecting flights, including to multiple cities in North America. Lufthansa Has Pulled The A380 From New York JFK Lufthansa has used the superjumbo to the Big Apple on a summer seasonal basis since 2023. Flightradar24 shows that it last flew there on October 25, 2025. The latest information shows that it will not return in 2026, with the A350-900 being used instead. Munich-JFK is the airline's sixth most popular US route by passenger numbers.
