ATX TV, SeriesFest, Sundance & Black List Host Emerging Writers Seminar

EXCLUSIVE: The television industry can be a competitive environment for emerging writers with no shortage of obstacles. While there are plenty of programs to help guide new scribes, navigating those can be a confusing and overwhelming task in and of itself. The good news is, TV writing newbies are in luck: ATX TV Festival, The Black List, Sundance Institute Episodic Program, and SeriesFest have all partnered for a one-hour webinar, titled ‘The Write Path: Navigating Opportunities for Emerging TV Writers,’ to provide guidance on each of the programs they offer. On November 4, folks from each organization will share insights into their programs as well as eligibility requirements, submission deadlines, and tips for creating standout applications. The panelists will include Emily Gipson (ATX TV) and Rika Dharmesh Bhakta (More Better Productions), Kate Hagen and Megan Halpern (The Black List), Randi Kleiner and Claire Taylor (SeriesFest), and Jandiz Estrada Cardoso (Sundance Institute). Some of the opportunities attendees can expect to discuss include the ATX TV Pitch Competition & Mentorship Program, WIF x Black List Episodic Lab, SeriesFest Festival Competitions and Labs, and the Sundance Institute Episodic Program. The goal? For emerging writers to walk away with a clearer roadmap for advancing their careers, whether they are developing a first pilot or refining an established voice. More about each of the four organizations leading the discussion are below. The conversation will be moderated by Deadline. ‘The Write Path: Navigating Opportunities for Emerging TV Writers’ will take place Tuesday, November 4 at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET via zoom. RSVP for the webinar here. ATX TV Festival is an annual four-day event in Austin, Texas, that celebrates television by bringing together fans and industry professionals for screenings, Q&As, and panel discussions about the past, present, and future of the medium. The Black List is a platform for writers to make available their completed screenplays, pilots, plays, and novels and get high-quality feedback from vetted readers. SeriesFest champions episodic storytelling and emerging creators through festival showcases, professional development opportunities, and educational programs. Sundance Institute Episodic Program provides mentorship, labs, and resources to help writers develop premium episodic content.
