By DayakDaily Team KUCHING, Oct 28: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has expressed serious concern over recent vandalism incidents involving newly installed decorative lighting within its administrative areas. According to a recent statement, DBKU said the irresponsible acts have caused damage and theft of lighting components, undermining ongoing efforts to beautify and enhance the city’s image as a vibrant, clean and attractive tourism destination, especially at night. “The initiative to beautify the city landscape, including the installation of decorative lights at various iconic locations, is part of DBKU’s ongoing mission to create a lively atmosphere in line to make Kuching a liveable, dynamic, and appealing city for both residents and visitors,” it said. However, vandalism has not only disrupted these aspirations but also led to wastage of resources and financial losses for both contractors and DBKU. It stressed that vandalising public property is an offence under the law, and offenders may face stern action. Members of the public who witness vandalism or damaged infrastructure are encouraged to report it immediately via DBKU’s complaint hotline at 016-886 4466 or through its official website. DBKU also extended its appreciation to Kuching residents for their cooperation and concern in protecting public assets, noting that collective responsibility is key to maintaining a harmonious and sustainable city environment. — DayakDaily
