Amy Dowden says she's 'resting up' after returning home from hospital

Amy Dowden has said she is home recovering days after undergoing a second mastectomy. The 35-year-old dancer told previously reassured fans the surgery had not been related to a "new cancer diagnosis", and added how her medical team expected a "straightforward recovery". The dancer, from Caerphilly , missed the 2023 Strictly series after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The star underwent a double mastectomy but doctors subsequently found she had "another type of cancer" which required chemotherapy. The Strictly star wrote on Instagram after her latest surgery: "Home, resting up, still got my drain in but rrrrrready for the best entertainment and medicine there is for me….. @bbcstrictly good luck everyone. "Cheering you all on from home! Lots of luck and love xxxxx" For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . In the pictures she's barefaced, and cwtched up with flowers surrounding her. Amy had already updated her followers after the surgery with a post from her hospital bed where the star was pictured surrounded by family and friends. She wrote: "Thank you for all the messages and love. Sorry I’ve not replied to anyone, (only just looked at my phone). "Surgery went well and lots of sleep and resting up. Hubby & Family have been looking after me and the besties have turned up with the goods and nothing is stopping us from watching the Traitors…keeping the tradition going." Fans flooded the comments with messages including The Traitors and Strictly host Claudia Winkleman, who shared a string of heart emojis. The Strictly star has had a challenging time with her health after initially being diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 having discovered a lump in her breast while on her honeymoon in the Maldives. Speaking on the Dr Hilary Show, Amy says she believes taking part in Strictly led to her discovering the lump on her breast. She said: “That show has changed my life for the better and yeah, I’m so grateful, and if it wasn’t for the show, I wouldn’t have been paired with Tom Fletcher, who was my partner in 2021. “I got on so well with Tom and his partner Giovana which then led me to get involved with a breast cancer charity, Coppafeel, which then led me to check my chests, and a few months later find the lump. “If it wasn’t for Strictly I probably wouldn’t be alive because they paired me with Tom which led me to find my cancer. The universe somehow went right for me there.” The Welsh dancer continuously gave updates from hospital as she went through chemotherapy, and candidly spoke about how she was left "extremely sick". Since recovering from the cancer she has returned to Strictly but both seasons have ended sooner than she may have hoped. In 2024, the Welsh dancer was forced to withdraw from the show early after sustaining an injury, and this year her and partner Frank Skinner were the first couple to booted off the show.
