She decided to step away from the entertainment industry in 2022. According to reports, she embraced renunciation (sanyas) and took the name Peetambra Maa. Her move followed after years of immense personal turmoil. She lost her mother and sister, and around the same time, her financial situation also collapsed due to the PMC Bank scam. She said, “After my savings got stuck in the bank. My mother’s and my sister’s deaths were the last straw. I had started disconnecting from the world before that. I was not interested in living this worldly life, so all those who were connected with me, I took their permission. For almost three years, she lived in caves, forests, and remote ashrams, often in extreme weather. The former actress shared that she survived frostbite, rat bites, and the illness in freezing temperatures but found peace in spiritual practice. Living close to nature brought me clarity.” Speaking to Telly Talk, “There is also a practice called bhikshatan (asking for alms), which I observe a few times a year. I beg for alms and share that offering with God and my guru. It dissolves the ego. I live with four or five pairs of clothes. Her monthly expense is reportedly around Rs 10,000. The actress was married to television actor Alankar Srivastava for more than 20 years before deciding to dedicate her life to spirituality.
