'Math Is As Weak As His Memory': BJP Counters Rahul Gandhi’s Vote Theft Allegations With Own 'Fact-Check'

Hours after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made vote theft allegations in the 2024 Haryana assembly elections, the BJP came up with a point-by-point rebuttal through its own “fact-check” late on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi said his team has clear proof that around 25 lakh voters in the state are either duplicate, non-existent, or manipulated in Haryana. His allegations came a day before Bihar goes to polls on Thursday (November 6). “We have crystal clear proof that 25 lakh voters (in Haryana) are fake, that they either don’t exist or they are duplicates or are designed in a way for anybody to vote. 1 in 8 voters in Haryana are fake, that’s 12.5 per cent,” Gandhi said. Calling his “vote chori” allegations as a baseless narrative to justify the opposition’s electoral losses, the BJP said Gandhi’s “math is as weak as his memory”. It said not only was his “recycled propaganda” a bunch of lies, but he has in the past blamed “EVM fraud” after the Congress suffered poll defeats. Bihar votes tomorrow, and look who’s back with his script of excuses.Rahul Gandhi- the man who loses every match and then blames the pitch. And this time, it’s “Vote Chori.”Let’s break down his great discoveries and expose his recycled propaganda, one lie at a time. pic.twitter.com/70vPv9Elx9— BJP (@BJP4India) November 5, 2025 It said the Congress MP prefers the spectacle of microphones over the due process of the court. He continues to contest elections using the same EVMs he constantly accuses of fraud, it added. The saffron party said his “vote chori” narrative is not about saving democracy, but his own political relevance. He keeps losing because the people of India reject his politics of entitlement, and the only “chori” is him stealing the nation’s precious time, it said. The Congress has not yet responded to the BJP’s point-by-point rebuttal of Gandhi’s allegations. Here’s how the BJP claimed to have debunked Gandhi’s allegations: The BJP said as voters prepare for the first phase of the assembly election in Bihar, Gandhi has returned with his “script of excuses”, this time reviving his baseless narrative of “vote chori”. “Bihar votes tomorrow, and look who’s back with his script of excuses. Rahul Gandhi- the man who loses every match and then blames the pitch. And this time, it’s “Vote Chori.” Let’s break down his great discoveries and expose his recycled propaganda, one lie at a time,” the BJP said in a thread on X, where it posted seven claims made by Gandhi with its corresponding “fact”. Claim 1: “The Entire State Election Was Stolen, Not Just a Few Booths, But Statewide, Nationwide!” Fact: “He said an old lady’s name appeared 220 times in the voter list from Mulana assembly constituency.” The BJP said Gandhi attempted to buttress his outlandish statewide theft accusation by citing a specific instance of an old woman’s name allegedly appearing 220 times in the voter list from the Mulana assembly constituency. However, it said his logic collapses when one considers the electoral outcome as the Congress won that seat. If “vote chori” occurred in Mulana, Gandhi is effectively accusing his own party of committing the theft, a perfect illustration of “classic Rahul logic”, it said. Claim 2: “Exit Polls Were Upside Down in Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra!” Fact: “Exit polls ≠ Election results.” The BJP accused the Congress of historically mocking exit polls in 2014, 2019, and 2024 whenever they predicted victories for the BJP. “…But suddenly, they’ve become the Gospel truth? Selective belief is a Congress speciality, and exit polls are fake unless they help them cry foul,” it posted. Claim 3: “We Were Ahead in Ballot Papers But Lost in the Final Results!” Fact: “Ballot papers in Haryana = only 0.57% of total votes.” The BJP further said in the Haryana elections, the votes cast via ballot paper constituted only 0.57 percent of the total votes. But Gandhi’s argument hinges on the assertion that 0.57 percent is greater than the 99.43 percent of voters who cast their ballots using EVMs, it said. “For Rahul Gandhi, 0.57% > 99.43% of voters who used EVMs. Also, in the 2015 Bihar elections, the BJP was leading in early ballot paper counts but lost later, but Rahul would not know. Not for nothing is he called ‘Balak Buddhi’. When Congress wins, it’s ‘democracy’. When the BJP wins, it’s ‘Vote Chori’,” it said. Claim 4: “Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini admitted to vote manipulation with his word ‘Vyavastha’.” Fact: “Rahul used a clipped video. The CM was referring to post-poll alliances, not “Vote Chori”.” This particular allegation demonstrates Gandhi’s willingness to manipulate language, the BJP said. He used a clipped video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini when he was, in fact, referring to post-poll alliances and political arrangements, it said, adding that this reflects a tendency to “turn any Hindi word into a conspiracy”. Claim 5: “Vote margin was only 1.18 lakh, BJP stole it!” “Fact: In seats with the lowest victory margins, Congress actually won 6 out of 10.” The data contradicts the narrative of marginal theft because in seats decided by the lowest victory margins, the Congress actually won six out of 10, the BJP said. Following Gandhi’s logic, it said, one must then question whether the Congress stole those seats as well. Furthermore, when the BJP received a higher vote share than the Congress in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh elections but still lost, the BJP did not cry “vote chori” but instead respected the democratic mandate, it added. Claim 6: “A lady voted 22 times across 10 booths in the Rai Assembly, centralised operation!” Fact: “Duplicate names in voter rolls ≠ fake votes.” The presence of duplicate names in voter rolls, the BJP said, is typically attributable to factors like migration, manual data entry errors, or outdated records. This phenomenon does not equate to fake votes being cast and the Election Commission of India (ECI) handles this through electoral roll revisions, it added. “Migration, manual errors, or outdated records cause this. That’s why EC conducts Special Intensive Revisions. But Rahul Gandhi even calls that ‘undemocratic’. No Congress agent filed a single complaint during voting. But months later, he discovers ‘evidence’. Maybe next time, he’ll find aliens running EVMs,” it wrote. Claim 7: “25 lakh votes were stolen in Haryana!” Fact: “That means 1 in every 8 voters was fake. ABSURD!” The BJP also said Gandhi’s allegations completely overlook the exhaustive electoral process. The Election Commission (EC) shared draft rolls with all political parties, verified over 4.16 lakh claims, and finalised the lists with the approval of the Congress, it said.
