'Before This World Cup They Promised Me': Jhulan Goswami Reveals Harmanpreet-Smriti's Resolve

Former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami has revealed that after the heartbreak of the 2022 World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana came to her hotel room and promised her that they would win the next title for her, a resolve that was fulfilled on Sunday night in Navi Mumbai. The Indian women’s cricket team etched a golden chapter in the country’s sporting history, clinching their maiden World Cup title with a 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. During the celebrations, Harmanpreet called the two OGs of Indian women’s cricket, Mithali Raj and Goswami, to hold the Cup. Both the legends broke down. “You know what, before this World Cup, they promised me that they would do it for me. In 2022, we weren’t able to qualify for the semifinals. After that, Harman and Smriti came to my room at midnight and they said that ‘we don’t know if you will be there in the next World Cup, but we will win that trophy for you’,” an emotional Jhulan revealed. “We’re going to win this for you!” 🫂 Captain @ImHarmanpreet and @mandhana_smriti live up to their promise of winning the #CWC25 for #TeamIndia stalwart, @JhulanG10? Even before that magical Sunday night in Mumbai’s suburbs, women’s cricket had already emerged as a viable career path in India, propelled by the success of the Women’s Premier League. But from Monday morning onward, women’s cricket will no longer be just a career option; it will become a calling for millions of young girls whose parents once doubted their dreams of wearing the India Blues.
